Deadline Set for Self-eviction of Illegal Religious Constructions

Mangalore, Nov 29: The district administration has set December 15 as the deadline for the self-eviction of illegal religious constructions as per the order passed by the Supreme Court.
This decision was taken at the officers’ meeting chaired by DC Subhodh Yadav, an official press release stated.
Addressing the meeting he said that many rounds of talks at taluk and district levels have been already held in the presence of religious leaders to implement this pro-people move. Appropriate steps have been taken to make the local people aware of this decision, he said.
Taluk panchayat CEOs and other officers informed that most people have come forward in support of the decision against the illegal structures.
As many as 1579 religious structures have been marked as illegal in the district, of which 152 are in Puttur, 150 in Kadaba, 363 in Mangalore, 352 in Bantwal, 298 in Belthangady, 136 in Sullia and 98 in Moodbidri.
The DC said that the district administration with the help of local administration will carry out the eviction operation on priority basis on those illegal structures which are not demolished by the parties concerned within the stipulated time limit.
The DC also directed the local officers to submit the priority list before December 10 and instructed them to coordinate with the police while preparing the priority list in order to make the process easy and fair, stated the press release.
SP Dr Subrahmanyeshwara Rao, additional DC Prabhakar Sharma, DCP Shree Ramesh, CEO P Shivshankar, Mangalore AC, Puttur AC, tahshildar of all the taluks among other officers were present.
