Headmistress stripping girl for carrying mobile: Education dept initiates action

Mandya, Jan 7 (IANS): Deputy Director for Public Instruction Javare Gowda who conducted an inquiry into the case of a headmistress punishing a girl student by making her strip before classmates in her office chamber and then assaulting her with a stick for carrying a cellphone to school, recommended her suspension on Friday.

The incident took place in the Government High School in Gananguru village in Srirangapattana taluk of Mandya district last week. The girl, studying in the 8th standard was allegedly beaten ruthlessly with a stick and asked to strip before her classmates. Headmistress Snehalatha V forced her to remain in that state without clothes for hours.

Javare Gowda said that he had recommended to the Commissioner of the Education Department that the headmistress be suspended for her cruel and indecent behaviour with a school student. Earlier, the Tehsildar and the School Development Management Committee (SDMC) had also recommended disciplinary action against the headmistress, he informed.

"Even I had visited the school on an earlier occasion and warned the headmistress about such behaviour. But since she has continued with it, it has become inevitable to initiate action," he said. Complaints have been filed by the student as well as her parents, he added.

The girl had said that the headmistress was furious after she came to know that she had brought a mobile to class. During lunch hour, the teacher asked the students whether they have brought mobiles to class and to give them to her. The headmistress also warned the girls that if they don't give the mobiles themselves, she would get them stripped and ask the boys to check them.

Later, the headmistress had sent all the boys outside the class and started hitting the victim. The girl said that the headmistress stripped her before her classmates and she was made to sit on the ground.

The girl said that even when she pleaded that she was feeling cold and wanted to drink water, the headmistress did not relent. Finally she was let go in the evening.

The parents of the girl complained to the senior officials in the education department and urged for action against the headmistress.

It is learnt that the headmistress has been infamous for her cruel punishments to students and she had been suspended earlier for punishing students cruelly.

HM COULD HAVE TAKEN POCESSION OF MOBILE ASKING THE GIRL TO BRING HER PARENTS TO SCHOOL AND GET BACK THE MOBILE THEREAFTER WITH WARNING TO THE PARENTS SO THAT PARENTS WILL TAKE ACTION ON GIRL THE WAY THEY WANT. HM COULD PUNISH ONLY FOR ISSUES RELATED TO SCHOOL BUT NOT PERSONAL ISSUES AS SUCH. EDUCATION DEPT. ALSO HOLDS RESPONSIBLE SINCE THIS IS THE SECOND TIME FOR LACK OF NOT GIVING GUIDELINES TO SCHOOL AUTHORITIES FROM TIME TO TIME.

If this incident had occurred in usa, she would have been behind bars. Here in our country she is not even suspended, forget about punishment. This leniency on the part of authorities promote such incidents. Why suspend, she should be sacked. She knows she has a govt job, so her job is secured.

Before suspending or firing from job in India they administration - law agencies have to go through many unwanted processes , like her - Head Mistresses Religion - cast - upper cast -lower cast - SC or ST- minor community or finally any affiliation with political party - powerful party etc then the law will see where to touch the case or give bail from police station itself to make this case puska and submit 'B' report! Victim did not present for enquiry - calling enquiry at 1 to 3 AM in the early morning time , In India we have all these provisions!

Surprised to read as "It is learnt that the headmistress has been infamous for her cruel punishments to students and she had been suspended earlier for punishing students cruelly" So why now only suspension? immediate termination without any end benefits and booked for cruel attack under child protection act.

Head mistress is not a human being.Good she is terminated.with that it is not enough A case should be filed against her for torturing children where she was supposed to be defending them. She may look another job somewhere and do the same.Thatswhy should be punished and make sure she doesnt work any more .withhold her certificates. What a woman with no blood in her eyes.should have practiced directed on her of stripping in front of children.Only then she would understand how it is .

Don't just suspend her terminate her services forever. Otherwise she will repeat the same in another school. Termination should serve as deterrent to others for similar crimes

There is the old proverb: baggidavanige ondu guddu jasti. Teachers never go to punish an alert, aggressive-looking student. But they punish mercilessly a child that is very gentle and helpless, especially from a poor family.
