Chitradurga: Obalapura villagers doggedly harassed by a single crow

Daijiworld Media Network - Chitradurga (SP)

Chitradurga, Jan 29: Some villages are irked by the monkey menace. We often hear troops of monkeys leaving villages ransacked. Likewise, there are villages which face danger from street dogs or pigs. The animal behaviour is hard to understand and sometimes armies of animals launch an assault on people for no apparent reason. People often blame the government or officials for their failure to come to their rescue.

Obalapura village in Bharamasagara has a strange problem at hand. A crow has been determinedly pursuing the villagers of this area, and the people relentlessly pursued by this bird over a protracted period of time. The villagers are worried, thinking over ways and means to escape from the relentless attacks of this crow.

Rarely one comes across the incident of a crow suddenly descending and returning after attacking a lone walker by its beak on the head. People here believe that such people suffer from Shani Dosha. But this crow has been attacking everyone who walks on the road. This has been going on for the last six months and the people are tired of it. This crow also attacks window glasses, rear mirror of vehicles and bikes, glass windows of cars etc with its beak. Whenever it sights a glass, it keeps pecking at it for a very long time. People of Obalapura lament that many people have suffered wounds in their heads because of the crow attack.

People of Obalapura have come to believe that they are targetted by this bird because of the anger of Lord Anjaneya. The village has a dilapidated temple of Anjaneya and it has not been renovated. Ten years back, the villagers had undertaken its repair and renovation of the temple but the Lord got angry as the villagers did not complete the temple renovation, the villagers say. Elderly people of the village therefore have been urging others to see that the temple renovation is done at the earliest so that the crow becomes sober and stops attacking the people.

Preetham, Farangipet " musters courage to tackle his human enemies, probably settling some old scores." Actual reason is that the cow must be calling its male partner. Like the wandering Leopardess. Better to learn from previous mistakes and improve self status.

May be it has found a fountain of Toddy (ಕಳ್ಳು) on nearby palms/coconut trees. After downing a peg or two the bird musters courage to tackle his human enemies, probably settling some old scores.

Most plausible reason is that its young ones were harmed by humans. Crows won't forget it for quite some time. The expression 'bird brain' seems insignificant here.

Yes. Crows have sharp and vivid memory. And they can pass on information to other crows too. If it attacks everyone, then they have good reasons to believe that it was not just an individual but a group of people at least. .
