Mangaluru: E-vehicles with solar, freezer, for fresh fish home delivery

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 29: In order to deliver fresh fish to the doorsteps of the consumers, vehicles equipped with solar panels and freezer facilities are being introduced soon. The fisheries department is introducing this vehicle with the aim of empowering the fishermen community.

The fisheries department has been planning this vehicle in the form of a modern invention. This will be introduced in the market soon. This is a part of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada scheme. Plans are afoot to provide e-vehicles in 15 days' time.

Currently, fish vendors are using two-wheelers, scooters, tempos, auto rickshaws etc., to take fish to the doors of the customers. Fuel being costly, the fish prices have also gone up. Even after using ice to preserve the fish, it does not help storage for longer duration or transportation for long distances. Therefore, e-vehicles were conceptualized.

The department has set aside Rs 4 Crore for the purpose. Minister for fisheries and inland water transport, S Angara says that every vehicle along with solar panel and cold storage will cost about Rs 8 lac. The department wants to attract young people towards this sector, create jobs and provide quality fish to customers. In the first phase, e-vehicles will be supplied to all the taluks in the district. In the next year, more vehicles will be manufactured and the scheme will be extended to other districts, the minister says.

The e-vehicles will have attractive bodies fitted with solar panels, freezers, lithium batteries, small loudspeaker and GPRS system which will be linked to the fisheries department app.

Fisheries department director Ramacharya, special officers of the minister, Mallikarjun and Arun Dhanpal are in charge of the implementation of the scheme. The department will soon identify the beneficiaries with added preference for women.

Why was this not thought of in 20th century? Fish on headloads from house to house under the scorching sun then! Now, every fisherman will have a sophisticated boat, efficient cold chain and health to the consumers!!

@ real kujuma, Well said Better to keep a bicycle (only physical energy). Those days I used to load 2 boys (class mates) and when alone, I used to climb light house hill road while going from Hampankatta. Time for bullock cart too. Memories of the past so great. Even some of my childhood friends used to have free ride in bullock cart in Highland.

@ Ramesh, Mulki "Its better than working like slaves at gulf" Aren't there any of your family members or friends work in Gulf countries or in Western countries and if yes, are they work as slaves ? I would by even the driver, a pakoda seller or a house maid would work hard and save money with in a decade and you would not save life long in Mulki (unless a business person) Even then financial burden, Taxes and loans. One fine morning news of suicide ! Please stop generalizing . May be you are envying others prosperity and that's why you are stuck in the well you are dwelling looking above your Universe.

Rather better than be a frog in the well. We are the people who have worked overseas and made India famous. We don't brag about it. But people who have zero contribution to the nation brag when Indian's occupy high positions in multi national companies. Would you call the CEO's and the Indians who migrated and made a big name in MNC's as 'slaves'? We don't need to make fun of the king or rulers in Saudi or gulf states as we enjoy our freedom and are much respected. Open your eyes.

Dear Sense_Shetty, Why would anyone need to make fun of the PM? Just 2 days back he said he was an 'active NCC Cadet'. He has fought with a crocodile. He sold tea in platform. He claims he did not have formal education, but he has degree in 'entire political science'. He claims he has wandered and lived in himalayas. He claims he was an active RSS cadet. He fought for the freedom of Bangladesh. He had digital camera much before it arrived in India. According to him fighter jets can evade radar when flying through clouds. So many things at the same time. Again....Why would anyone make fun of the prime minister?

I agree with Ramesh. In our own country we can live like king. We have security. We have law. We have Insurance. We can look after our aged parents. We can live with friends and relatives. Most importantly we will pay tax to the mother country which gave us so much. And we have respect.

Dear Praveen, We contribute by increasing the FOREX reserves with each NRI remittance we do. All the remittances done by NRI's increases the spending thus contributing to the GDP. Speaking about 'Law'? Which 'Law'? I guess you are talking of the in-laws ;) ;) ;)

Remember it's the remittance we send which is the backbone of India's economy. That’s the reason the infrastructure in our country is sturdy and going great guns. Income tax accrued by tax payers to the treasury is ONLY a drop of 💧 water in the ocean compared to the massive inflow of remittances from people like us and keeping the brand image of India afloat else the face of India would have crashed face flat on the ground.
