"In the list of Padma awardees, there are some names about which people may not be knowing much. These are the country's achievers who work from behind the scenes. They have done excellent work when facing tough situations. Mahalinga Naik from Karnataka is one such achiever. He has achieved which make people to get surprised. He has been a role model for other farmers. He has achieved things which deserve to be recognized through awards," he said.

"People get awestruck at the inventions Mahalinga Naik has done in farming. Some call him a 'tunnel man'. The efforts put in by him are benefitting people with small landholdings. Several such achievers who had not hogged the limelight were identified and honoured by the nation. People have to try to learn about him. From him we can learn many things in life," he stated.
