Udupi: MLA denies girl students with Hijab, media entry to college

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Jan 31: MLA and president of College Development Authority Raghupati Bhat has categorically denied the girls protesting for Hijab, entry to the Government Women's PU College here.

He annnounced the same after chairing a meeting at the college on Monday, January 31 in which four of the five girl students demanding Hijab in classes participated.

MLA Bhat said, “It is not possible to give permission to attend classes in the college wearing Hijab. As per the decision of the government and college committee, only uniforms are allowed. All the points are clarified to the parents as well as the girl students. Attending classes with Hijab is not allowed. The parents of the girls said that they will decide after speaking to the male members of their family."

“From Tuesday, February 1, there is no opportunity to create any chaos or confusion on the college campus. Media or any organisation will not be given entry. Examinations will begin in the next two months. We have been receiving complaints from the parents of other students in this matter. If you want to appeal further, you may do so with the DC. Only those who follow discipline can enter the college campus,” Bhat asserted.

Why not engage ourselves in resolving other problems and why make interfere in these students personal lives? I am sure there are other major problems like children not being sent to school etc in the district to be solved

Religious practice should be maintained within houses and religious places not in public places and institutions. Students should follow rules and regulations of particular institution . Better such people stay at home and do the home schooling.

If batta wants the uniform to be uniform (same) throughout college, then bindi, nose ring, facial powder, lip gloss, nail polish etc....only wrist watch to be allowed...no wrist bands of any kind for male or female...It is only fair and just to do so. Don't be dishonest and a one-sided batta.

Anthony: Do not compare apples with oranges. The best choice for the hijab toting girls is to file a PIL with the court to be taken up on an urgent basis so that their year is not lost. At least at the High Court level and if the court orders a stay of the hijab rule, the girls should be allowed to participate in person, otherwise, they can learn virtually.

All for politics -- -- it is well known how much high standards this MLA has maintained -- STUDENTS --It is not that they have refused to wear uniform as specified -- only head scarf- Sikhs wear uniform and carry turban etc -- likewise -- how hair is cut -- so many customs -- which however adhere to main uniform -- norms --etc -- So main focus to be on Youth development -- Sports -- studies - literature -music -- all round development and YOUTH to be future of INDIA -- other Society building activities should be aim of GOVT -- ---not divisions --

Very good decision. There is a reason why uniforms are made mandatory. We cannot have people wear whatever they want inside school or college premises.

Good point, sir. However, I am afraid, it is too late. The political parties, especially the one Mr Bhat belongs to, have pushed political activism down the throats of the students. Is there a college anywhere in Karnataka without ABVP? There are of course many other organisations pushing their ideology onto the students. In my opinion, what might help in the long run is all political parties removing their activities from the colleges for the sake of the country's progress. But that is wishful thinking,
