Kundapur, Feb 2: The Hijab controversy in Udupi during the last few days has been making news on a national level. With the issue knocking the doors of the state High Court, it has blown up into a battle between the Hijab and saffron shawl in Kundapur Junior College. Following the scenario a meeting of the parents of the Muslim community students of the college chaired by Kundapur MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty on Wednesday, Febraury 2..

The government pre university college here is known for excellent education for the past several years. Some students here, opposing another group wearing Hijab, had started attending classes wearing saffron scarfs. About 28 female students had been attending college wearing Hijabs. Countering this, more than 100 Hindu girls entered the campus wearing saffron shawls today. Fearing that the matter might go out of hand, MLA Srinivas Shetty had personally visited the college to dilute the situation.

Shetty held a meeting about Hijab with parents of students concerned for about one and a half hours. The parents maintained that wearing Hijab is their custom and the meeting failed.

The MLA has reportedly told that students wearing clothing other than college uniform cannot be permitted inside the campus. With the police department also informed about the issue, the college administration has asked the students of both the communities should adhere to uniform clothing.

Not all students are interested in this foolish things, everyone wears something belonging to their religion. Wearing scarf to display power wasn't really required

Lets get it straight, its not as if the girls are not wearing uniform as most people make them out to be doing. They are wearing full uniform . If they want a scarf over their head whats the problem? Or is the problem that they are Muslims?

India is a country with diverse culture and it’s the pride of the country, provided if this present govt demonstrates unity in diversity. It’s displayed in our armed forces, police and in govt establishments by giving right to dress code in thier uniforms since 1947 as long as the face is clearly visible. But the present govt is playing divisive in diversity to break the very fabric of the country and massacre the constitutional rights of the people. It’s not right for the govt to kill the vast diverse culture of a country.

Let's be clear on one thing...Go to a School or College and abide by its rules.... Wearing a Hijab is a custom as mentioned by the parents, wearing a Saffron Shawl is flaunting your Relegion.... Wearing a Sikh Turban and Beard is Sikh Religious Duty.

Readers, the battle over the " Dress Code " has intensified and has reached ridiculous levels !!! It has now reached the doorsteps of the judiciary !! If the Hijab and the Saffron scarf are legitimized, then Buddhists should be allowed to wear blue gowns, Christians white cassock and Jains white garments !!!
