Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (MS)

Bantwal, Feb 4: It is learnt that Umarul Bashith, main accused in the case relating to mockery of Tulunadu Daiva Koragajja by a group of youths belonging to other community, is arrested by airport officials of Nadumban Cheri at Kochi in Kerala.

It is also learnt that Bashith is being brought to Vittal by the Vittal police.

Bashith is accused of wearing a costume that resembled Tulunadu Daiva Koragajja at the reception ceremony of him at his bride’s house. The act was videographed by his friends and created huge controversy in the district.

A person of Vittal Padnoor village had filed a complaint in this regard with Vittal police and urged the police to take action against the bridegroom and the families of both bridegroom and the bride.

Umarul Bashith had applied for anticipatory bail in the fourth additional sessions court of Mangaluru. However, the court had quashed his petition.

The following excerpt is from a previous report : Meanwhile, A 27-year-old youth identified as Chethan, a resident of Kadambu, Vittalpadnoor of Bantwal taluk, filed a complaint at Vittal police station against Bashith. As long as the complainant doesn't withdraw his complain, the police are duty bound to arrest the accused. In the aftermath of the news, many people clarified that Koragajja is not a deity, he had fought for social reform, hence people of his community started to worship him. Members of Koraga community even questioned why nobody came in their support when the police barged-in and made arrest during a function of their community but making a scene now. Therefore, it's long overdue for Mr. Chethan to withdraw his complain, especially because the groom publicly apologized for wearing the costume.

He has apologized. It sounded genuine. He is from Kerala I guess, must not have knows the practices of Tulunad. All excited about wedding Gulab Jamun that day I think. Guess he was misdirected by some miscreants among them. Forgive, forget and move on.
