E T Babu and Sreeja, relatives of Saramma, took advantage of the situation and tried to encroach upon her land by creating fake documents.

Babu and Sreeja bribed the authorities and obtained Saramma's fake death certificate. When Saramma went toa  ration shop to get provisions she came to know that her ration card had been cancelled. Then she went to the taluk office where the fraud came to light.

Accused Babu and Sreeja had not only created fake documents declaring Saramma dead but also had applied for RTC transfer in their name in taluk office. In addition, they had also threatened Saramma's family members with life. Saramma has accused the con couple of "killing her."
