Govt plans Cancer Treatment Centres in all regional zones: Bommai

Bengaluru, Feb 4: The State government will be opening Cancer Treatment Centers in all regional zones, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

The Chief Minister in his address after launching a Public Awareness Programme at Uttarahalli as part of 'World Cancer Day' on Friday, February 4 stressed the importance of providing better treatment facilities for cancer patients.

Action has been initiated for purchase of two Pet Scan machines as part of modernisation of Kidwai Cancer Hospital. It costs around Rs 25,000 for a Pet Scan report in private hospitals. State government has decided to offer the Pet Scan facility at an affordable rate of Rs 8,000 to Rs 10, 000 for the poor patients by purchasing the Pet Scan Machines for Kidwai hospital, Bommai said.

The State government intends to provide costly Cancer medicines at affordable prices for the common man through the Jan Aushadi Kendras.

Talks would be held with the Union government and the Drug Manufacturing companies in this regard, he said.

There is a proposal to establish a society to supply Cancer drugs at an affordable price for the people. The State government is committed to build a healthy Karnataka by upgrading the health infrastructure from Taluk level, Bommai said.

Referring to Breast Cancer among the women, Bommai called upon the afflicted women not to lose confidence as Cancer is curable.

“You can lead a normal life after treatment. You need not lose hope,” the Chief Minister said.

A year-long public awareness campaign against Breast Cancer would be launched from Taluk level hospitals to Kidwai hospital.

Special programmes too would be held against Breast Cancer, he said.

A healthy Karnataka is a prerequisite to build a Karnataka. The State Government would pay special attention towards education and health. The scourge of Cancer could be eradicated with the government and the communities working together. Public awareness campaigns would play a supplementary role in this regard, he said.

The Chief Minister appreciates the morale of the woman who won the battle against Cancer.

Appreciating the confidence and morale of a woman, who won the 10-12 year-long battle against Vocal Cord Cancer, Bommai said she has regained her speech now.

The Chief Minister was full of praise for the woman who shared her experience at the function and raised the confidence of Cancer patients to be optimistic to defeat Cancer.
