Bengaluru, Feb 12: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday promised to convene a meeting to discuss the implications of the recent Supreme Court order on the reservations to Other Backward Classes.

Speaking to reporters near his residence on Saturday, Bommai said the State Government needs to formulate its policy on the OBC quota issue pertaining to Taluk and ZillaPanchayats in the State and would like to study the implications of the apex court’s order and the situation in Karnataka.

The State Government must decide on how to conduct the elections to Taluk and ZillaPanchayats in the State even while retaining the reservations fixed by it.

It may be recalled that the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister KS Eshwarappa has already indicated that the elections to the Taluk and ZillaPanchayats, which were last held in 2016 and were due to be held last year, were unlikely to be held during the term of the present government till 2023, when fresh assembly polls are due.
