Udupi, Feb 14: High schools began functioning from Monday February 14 in the district after five days of closure due to Hijab-saffron shawl issue.
The attendance of students is normal in all the educational institutions. Some students are even writing examinations scheduled for the day.
Muslim girl students entered campus of school wearing Hijab. Police protection is provided for schools. In addition, police presence is seen in various parts of the city in order to maintain law and order and avoid any untoward incidents.
Additional DDPI Govinda Madiwala also visited schools to assess the situation.
Udupi tahsildar Pradeep Kurudekar visited the school. He informed that all Muslim students had removed Hijab and attending exams, as per government rules.
“None of the students were wearing Hijab inside the classroom. The Hijab controversy started in November 2021. All are dancing to their tunes. The students are asking to start physical classes. Because of six students, our future is in danger. They challenged us to remove Kumkum and bindi so that they will also remove Hijab. We have tried a lot to convince them. But they did not agree. All their accusations are false. They used to attend classes without Hijab. Earlier, the same six students had made an issue with regards to the language. All these issues should be resolved soon and classes should be started,” student urged principal.
Pejawar seer Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji said, “The life that is built in future by the students is important. Future society should be well educated. Let a situation conducive for education be there in society. Students and parents should cooperate in order to achieve this. Today’s children are tomorrow’s citizens.
“No one expects chaos and differences. All have to maintain peace. The court is handling the issue now. Let us wait and proceed as per the verdict,” he said.
