Mangaluru, Feb 14: District in charge minister Sunil Kumar said that mining at three places at Kavala Mudur village and surrounding areas of Karinjeshwar temple is stopped.

Mining is in progress in this area since 2007. The mining department slapped a fine of Rs 8.12 crore on the owners mining for mining in area out of its limits. The mining was carried out on 3.28 acres beyond the specified limits. As the owners of the mining industry did not pay the fine, the mining activity is stalled from December 2021.

The minister also said that a complaint is filed in court against the owners of these mining companies.

In Kavala Padoor village the mining which started on one acre of land in 2016, is stopped as the mining owner has encroached the land meant for cow grazing. In another nearby area, mining which started in 2015 is stopped as the original contractor died and someone else is doing it unofficially.

The minister said that government level discussions are going on to declare the surrounding areas of Karinjeshwar temple as sensitive areas. In coming days, the demands of devotees will be fulfilled in phases, he said.
