Cong leaders launch dharna against Eshwarappa; CM says they 'misunderstood' his remark

Bengaluru, Feb 18 (IANS): Karnataka Congress leaders have started a 'dharna' at the state legislature demanding resignation of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K.S. Eshwarappa.

Eshwarappa had courted controversy earlier by stating that one day saffron flag will be hoisted on the Red Fort. Congress MLAs led by Opposition leader Siddaramaiah and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar had given deadline for the ruling BJP government to sack Eshwarappa till Thursday morning.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and the Speaker Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri personally went and met Congress leaders in the assembly and requested to end the "day and night" agitation. However, the Congress leaders refused to soften their stand.

"The Opposition has misunderstood minister Eshwarappa's statement and is trying to create a wrong perception among the people. It is showing an anti-people attitude over the issue," Bommai said.

"There is nothing wrong in Eshwarappa's statement. It does not have any aspects against the law. The opposition has made it a big issue as they do not have any other issue. They are staging day and night dharna without any cause. it is not the way a responsible Opposition functions.

"It has completely forgotten its responsibility. They believe it would bring them political gains. But it would not bring them any dividends," Bommai added.

Wow look at the passion in protecting their own. And see how passionate they were when they filed sedition charges against common citizens when they spoke truth about the govt. If these guys are not hypocrite then it is I am sure the people who voted them to power. These guys are the most corrupt, the most insecure, the most jealous set of politicians in the current Govt. If they have gone as far as protecting a politician who spoke against our national flag, then we the citizens are in far really bad days ahead

Jokers are wasting tax payers doing all this dharna. The attendance and the number of questions asked by all the legislators must be made public and they voted based only on their performance.

Those politicians are sitting together and giggling. There is no difference between them when they are together. Their agitation is only in front of media. We the common people are divided, whereas no one should fall prey on those politicians hands.

CM said Congress misunderstood his remarks . The day congress understands the mindset of the people they will quit the party and join some other party . Manish Tewari would quit a day before Punjab goes for voting to make maximum damage. What happened to Shivkumars earlier charge of removing national flag and hoisting saffron flag? No substance left ??? Even Burqa is now hitting them back as people understand who is playing politics on these .

Do a common citizen or any opposition party leader make the similar statement saying "One day we will replace National flag with some other", will they not be arrested by now on charges of treason?
