Udupi: Two men barge into house, stab woman, chased and caught by locals

Udupi, Feb 18: In a shocking incident, two persons barged into a house at Manipal here and stabbed and wounded a woman. When they tried to escape, they were caught by the locals and handed over to police.

The incident was reported at Hudko colony in Ananthnagar, Manipal here late evening on Friday February 18.

It is learnt that two persons, suspected to be thieves, entered a house and stabbed the occupant, a woman. They then tried to stuff the wounded woman into a box. In the meantime, the woman's husband arrived and tried to stop the men.

The accused escaped from the spot, but the locals who came to know of the incident chased them and managed to catch them.

The victim has been identified as Sumathi Rai. She has been admitted to a private hospital in Manipal.

The thieves also burgled valuables from the house, sources said.

Manipal police arrived at the spot and took the accused into custody.

A case is being registered in Manipal police station in this regard.
