Mangaluru, Feb 22: S P Hamza Saqafi, secretary of Sunni Jamiyyatul Ulama central committee on Tuesday February 22 expressed hopes that the Hijab controversy will find an amicable solution soon.

Addressing a press meet here, Saqafi said, "Some vested political interests have clearly tried to encash the opportunity provided by the Hijab controversy which started in Udupi district recently. There is an attempt to usurp the individual freedom on the issue of wearing of clothes. This is a conspiracy to crush the rights and deny the constitutional right given to a community by the Constitution.

"In different regions of India, women from different religions have been covering their faces with the edges of their saris. Islam considers Hijabs as compulsory for women, and Muslim girl students have been following this in educational institutions. Now, suddenly unnecessary controversy has been created on this issue. This unfortunate attempt to sow the seeds of hatred among the students who hitherto had good relationship, is condemnable," he said.

"People from different languages, castes, cultures and religions study in educational institutions. There is diversity in their names, clothes, and everything. Still they are able to depict unity. It is childish to argue that Hijabs are able to intervene in this equality. People of different backgrounds who retain religious symbols are living together by understanding each other. None of these dresses have interfered with their unity and equality.

"The high court interim order has been wrongly understood even thought that is applicable for PU colleges, and an effort to keep Muslim girl students out of educational institutions is being made. Sunni He said that wearing of vermillion or Hijab does not hinder equality. He demanded that the constitutional rights of Muslim girls should not be snatched away just for symbolic equality. He requested that in the name of these things, the educational progress of girl students should not be spoiled.

"The Ulama wants the case before the court to be asettled in a way that constitutioknal rights are protected. It asserts its faith in courts and wants conscious cirtizens to join hands to protect constituioknal rights," Saqafi said.

Qazi M Abdul Hameed Musliyar Mani (presidente, Sunni Jamiyyatul Ulama centralcommittee), S P Hamza Saqafi (sectetary Sunni Jamiyatul Ulama central committee), Qasim Madani Karaya (President, Sunni Jamiyatul Ulama DK district committee) kwere present.
