ITIs: Govt to Overhaul Accreditation, Affiliation System

New Delhi, Jan 16 (PTI) The Government has decided to overhaul accreditation and affiliation processes of both state and private-run ITIs and introduce semester system to improve the quality of vocational training programmes.

The Labour and Employment Ministry has decided to set up a sub-committee to look into the possibility of involving Quality Council of India (QCI) to provide accreditation to both government and private-run industrial training centres, said an official in the Ministry.

The move assumes significance following the formulation of the national policy on skill development which has set a target for training of 500 million people by 2022.

The Ministry has also proposed to grant affiliation to ITIs for three years and renew it following fresh inspections, the official said.
