Udupi: Fines proposed for defective PU answer sheet evaluation

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Mar 31: In the past, a number of students used to face injustices on account of faulty evaluation of answer sheets by the evaluators. Defective evaluation did not attract any penalty but the government has now proposed to levy fines on those who commit grave mistakes.

A total fine of Rs 400 was collected for the defective evaluation in the year 2018-19 and 2019-20 while no annual exam was held in 2020-21. During this period, evaluation defects were reported in the case of 2,777 students.

After the second PU results are published, the students get a chance to apply for getting scanned copies of the answer sheets and for retotalling of marks. If the defective valuation results in more than six marks, the students get the marks and also the fee paid by them for revaluation is refunded.

If the current proposal sails through, the evaluators may face harsher fines. The legislature too has discussed the issue and education minister B C Nagesh, has promised to take stern action. The government plans to penalise the evaluators to instill a sense of seriousness in them as mistakes committed by them go a long way in deciding the academic future of the students and affect their mental health. Many students do not apply for revaluation or retotalling, not knowing that their lower marks could be on account of defective evaluation. Similar actions may be taken against the SSLC answer sheet
evaluators too.

Here if no fine then all work for their salary only without any quality work. Like markogu kelasa. See the injustice to students as well if evaluators do not work honestly. Revaluation takes time and their next planned degree may not wait for them for admissions.
