Yadgiri, May 8: The plight of animals during summer time is unexplainable as they search for water to drink. A Muslim farmer, who understands the need of the dumb creatures, is quenching their thirst by providing for water.

Modern Bhagiratha Abdul Gafoor is showing exemplary love towards cows. He does agriculture on three acres of land that he owns on the hills in his village of Yaragola in the taluk. He has dug a borewell on his land and constructed a store house for animals to drink water during summer.

Thousands of animals including sheep and goats arrive from nearby villages to drink water at the store house built by Abdul Gafoor. The cattle graze in the nearby lands and drink water from the store house and leave happily to their respective sheds. Gafoor is doing this noble work for the past eight years.

Nobleman Gafoor says, “If human beings want water they can buy and drink from the shops. But dumb animals do not have that choice. During summer they tread long distances to find drinking water. That is why I put a borewell and made storehouse for them to have enough water to beat the summer heat for four months. This is a small service I am doing for the animals. I have not taken any help from government or any other agency.”

During these times of religious conflicts in Karnataka, people like Abdul Gafoor provide a ray of hope for communal harmony and living together.
