Udupi, Jun 17: Farmers of coastal districts are panicking due to lack of rainfall even as they get ready for the impending monsoon season.

Farmers who had begun their agricultural activity in anticipation of rainfall, especially those cultivating paddy, are disappointed that the monsoon has remained inactive so far since the beginning of June.

Villages that come under Hiriyadka such as Perduru, Kukkehalli, Athrady. Anjaaru, Bommarabettu, Kudi, Pernamkila, Heeribettu, Marne, Kodangala, Karvalu and farmers have not made any preparations to begin their agricultural activity.

Farmers are disappointed that the monsoon is yet to pick up following the cyclone in May that saw heavy downpour. Farmers expected an early monsoon and had even thought of resuming agricultural activity early.

Due to heat conditions that continue to exist, farmers who had made arrangements to cultivate paddy if the monsoon had hit are now disappointed. Farmers are now experiencing heat conditions that are not conducive to grow paddy.

Farmers are worried about the produce and yield of paddy this year due to the delay in the onset of monsoon.

Met dept seem like a bunch of jokers always... They are fit to measure rain after it comes rather than predict any... Looks like we are in for a hard June... By the first week of June last year tankers had stopped coming to our apartment building... This year they are still supplying water...
