Udupi, Jul 23: Final year students of Mechanical Engineering at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM) Bantakal have designed and developed a groundnut seed sowing machine. The project work was carried out by Maren Martin Pinto, Clement Jhonson D'Souza, Ramesh has under the guidance of Lingaraj Ritti, assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering.
Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy. In rural areas due to scarcity of laborers the cultivation of groundnut has decreased day by day and available seed sowing machines are of high cost and bulky, to overcome these difficulties, a suitable machine is designed and developed. This significantly reduces the human efforts and time of seed sowing activities by the farmers and also reduces dependency on human resources in the agricultural sector.
This machine is used for ploughing, seed sowing, water spraying, and closing the mud, all these functions are integrated into a single machine to increase production rate. Using a simple mechanism the machine is designed and developed to reduce machine cost, and simple operations reduce the time required to perform different tasks involved in seed sowing. In this machine solar energy is used to charge the battery which reduces the cost of power consumption.
The management, principal Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, HOD of Mechanical Engineering Dr Gajanan Anne have appreciated and congratulated the team.
