Udupi, Jul 27: The NSS units of the Milagres College in cooperation with KMC Manipal and other socially concerned platforms like The Rotary Club, Abhaya Hasta Helpline, and Youth Red Cross team of the college jointly organised a blood donation camp in the College premises on July 26.
Spacious college library was suitably arranged to provide equipments, beds and necessary facilities by the volunteers with KMC team.
At 9.30 am, a simple but meaningful inauguration ceremony was held in the college AV auditorium in which the inaugurator and principal Dr Vincent Alva, who himself a regular donor (56th time) appreciated all the organisers for their initiative and leadership and donors for their true concern for the needy in the society. "As the blood and life go hand in hand, without knowing each other – the recipient and the donor, is also a sacrifice and a goodwill gesture which will help in a big way during emergencies…." he opined and wished all success to this camp in the College.
Dr Ancy from KMC Manipal too spoke on this occasion, "As one donor is saving life of 4 people and there is no alternative for blood as it should be replaced by blood only…." and expressed her happiness being the Milagres campus is holding such camps every year regularly.
The founder of Abhaya-Hasta Helpline Sathish Salian was present as guest, had all praises for the NSS units, the college and its principal for their true concern for arranging such programmes and encouragement to students to be part of the movement.
Rotarian PHF Ramachandra Upadhyaya, assistant governor zone 4, dist 3182, in his well worded message gave a call to students and youth to be dedicated link in serving and in social service, as these habits started at the youthful days will be imbibed for life time.
Rotarian PHF Subramanya, president Rotary Club Udupi also wished this campaign a well deserved success and assured all cooperation from Rotary team in future too.
President of the Lions Club, Kallianpur, George DSouza, the convenor of the Youth Red Cross of the college professor Clara Menezes, department of Commerce, IQAC coordinator Dr Jayaram Shettigar, the NSS programme officers professor Anupama Jogi and professor Melson DSouza, Joyce Picardo, secretary of the MCK Alumnae Association were also present on the dais.
In the beginning Sharanya – II B Com A, extended a warm and homely welcome to all present on this occasion and Nikhita II B Com B, proposed vote of thanks as the whole stage programme was meticulously compered by Mellissa Mascarenhas,II B Com A.
The KMC Manipal team was there in the college with the NSS volunteers till 3.00 pm, as more than 85 units of blood was collected from both teachers and students who enthusiastically participated in the well organised event.
