Mangaluru, Aug 15: The 75 years of Indian Independence 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' was commemorated with the theme ‘Nation Always First' amidst patriotic fervour at Times Square ground of Expert PU College Valachil.
"We obtained freedom from colonal power through great struggle and great sacrifices by many great sons and daughters of this nation. We need to remember all such freedom fighters with gratefulness and celebrate the Independence Day meaningfully," said the chief guest Arun Shahapur, former MLC, government of Karnataka, after hoisting the flag. He lauded the management of the college for contributing to the cause of nation building through quality education.
Delivering the Presidential address, Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman, Expert Group of Institutions said that every citizen must put in level best efforts to country's prosperity and to make a superpower. He conveyed his greetings to the students and faculty on the occasion.
Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions administered the oath of office to the newly elected members of the students council. She called upon the students to do great deeds and be creators of new history in our country.
Ankush N. Nayak, director, Information Technology, Expert Group of Institutions, Architect Deepika A Nayak, Ustad Rafeeq Khan, trustee, Raghavendra Shenoy, vice principal (admin), Subramanya Udupa, vice principal (academics), Vidyasharada, programme director and the faculty members were present on the occasion.
Group dance, patriotic songs and pyramids formation were a part of the function. Pencil sketch and slogan writing competitions were conducted for the students in connection with the programme and the prizes were given away to the winners.
Sweets were distributed at the end of the programme.
President of the students council Ayush S N welcomed the gathering. Vaishnavi V Kulkarni, general secretary of the students council proposed vote of thanks. Students Shubham Basavaraj Dangi of J-2 batch and Pooja Udaya Kumar Bendigeri of M-2 batch as masters of the ceremony compered the programme.
