Udupi, Aug 18: An appeal was submitted to the newly appointed SP Akshay Machindra by Ramesh Kanchan, president of Block Congress committee president of the district requesting to withdraw the security personnel provided for the Congress office at the earliest.

The letter submitted by Congress to the SP says, “State police department, which is run by the taxpayers’ money is for the protection of public. Misuse of such a department is not right.

“Neither the Congress party nor its workers are scared just because a handful of BJP activists raised slogans inside the office when no one was there. We heartily accept the security provided by Udupi police as a precaution. However, unnecessary use of police, who are reserved for the security and order of the public, just because of some BJP miscreants, is like misusing taxpayers’ money. So the same should be withdrawn.

“If such a threat arises, workers of Congress party are ready to pledge their life and fight for the security of the office against some pervert powers.”

KPCC chief secretary M A Gafoor, Udupi district Congress committee chief secretary Kishan Hegde Kolkebailu, Udupi block Congress committee vice president Sadashiva Poojary, president of campaign committee Prashant Poojary, president of women’s block Congress committee Mamatha Shetty, former city municipality president Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje, vice president of Kadekar gram panchayat Naveen Shetty, panchayat member Sukanya Poojary, chief secretary of block Congress Sathish Kumar Manchi, Sairaj Kidiyoor, Bharath Manipal, Pramila Suvarna, Shalini Purandar Salian, Ganesh, Narayana Kunder, Harish KIni, Narasimhamurthy, Sathish Kodavoor, Prakhyath Shetty, Yathish Karkera, Hammad, Sanjay Acharya and others were present.
