New London (Connecticut), Apr 15 (AP) The US Coast Guard today marked the 99th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic by dropping memorial wreaths near the British luxury liner's resting place in the North Atlantic.
The Coast Guard's International Ice Patrol dropped the three donated wreaths over the waters off Newfoundland.
It is an annual tradition for the New London-based Ice Patrol, which was created to monitor iceberg danger as a result of the Titanic's sinking.
The Titanic struck ice and sank on its maiden voyage in international waters on April 15, 1912, and 1,522 people died.
