Mangalore, May 13: Hours after news of an FIR filed against MP and BJP candidate Nalin Kumar Kateel made headlines, the BJP district unit came to his defense and claimed it was a political conspiracy to damage Nalin Kumar's image.
The FIR, filed in Bunder police station, was on the basis of a complaint by Mumbai-based Sathish Shetty alleging an affair between his wife and Nalin Kumar. Sathish Shetty also alleged that he had received a threat to life from Nalin.
In a statement to the media, the BJP's district unit said that the allegations were nothing but a political conspiracy against Nalin Kumar.
"There is a vicious political motive behind the allegations levelled against MP Nalin Kumar," the release stated.
"Having failed to fulifil their political greed, some of the established forces have been making such attempts (to tarnish Nalin's image). These kind of incidiary activities had begun even before the elections," the BJP said.
Terming the allegations as baseless, the release stated, "Intelligent people can see through the blackmail tactics used to defame a person's reputation. The BJP strongly and unanimously condemns such actions."
"The MP has already given a complaint to the police regarding attempts to defame him and damage his image. Hence, as a pressure tactic, some people have resorted to filing a case against him. We will fight this battle through legal means," said BJP district president Pratap Simha Nayak.

Mangalore: Fresh trouble for Nalin - Man claims his affair with wife, FIR filed
Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore
Mangalore, May 13: In fresh trouble for MP and BJP candidate Nalin Kumar Kateel, a person by name Sathish Shetty has filed a complaint with Bunder police that he was responsible for separating him and his wife, and that he even had an affair with her.
The Bunder police have filed an FIR based on his complaint.
Sathish Shetty in his complaint alleged that five years ago, when he and his wife had some small differences, she refused to come back to him to Mumbai, and instead approached Nalin Kumar who was a family friend. Sathish claims that instead of bringing them together, Nalin made her file a false complaint of dowry harassment against him and his mother and succeeded in separating his wife and children from him.
He further said that on checking his wife's call records, he came to know that she and Nalin Kumar spoke for hours together almost every day. He further alleged that Nalin Kumar had stayed in several hotels overnight in Mangalore and Bangalore.
Giving specific information, he said on January 4, 2013, his wife had travelled from Udupi and met Nalin in Kadri, and after returning to Udupi, she went to Bangalore by bus and spoke to Nalin over the phone for several hours. Sathish claimed that Nalin too went to Bangalore the next day to be with her.
Sathish further said that he did not want to bring out this issue before the polling for the elections in Karnataka as he did not want to damage the image of RSS or BJP candidate Narendra Modi.
He also alleged that after the polling, he has been getting threatening calls from his wife, her brother Ranjith and Nalin Kumar Kateel, and that he was even followed.
Reacting to the allegations, Nalin Kumar Kateel told daijiworld that the charges against him were absolutely baseless, and that neither he nor his men threatened anyone.
"The allegations made against me are false. It is a conspiracy against me, and attempts are being made from the last six months to tarnish my image and finish me politically. I don't even know who Sathish Shetty is. If he has faced any injustice he should fight legally.
"I have already filed a counter complaint on this issue. I will fight a legal battle against this," he said.
Speaking to daijiworld, Sathish Shetty's wife said, "Let him (Sathish Shetty) prove his allegations in court. There is already a case against him, which I filed 6 years ago in Udupi court jurisdiction. About 80 percent of the hearing is complete, and knowing that he would lose the case, he and his advocate have hatched this conspiracy to use my name for political gain against Nalin Kumar Kateel. I will file a counter case."
She also denied having any relationship with Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Based on Sathish Shetty's complaint, the police have booked his wife, her brother and Nalin Kumar under sections 120 (criminal conspiracy), 497 (adultery), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
