Bengaluru: Special treatment to Sasikala, Mangaluru prison party true - Reports

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jul 24: Senior prison officials are learnt to have admitted to having provided five luxury rooms and several other facilities in violation of existing norms to AIADMK general secretary, Sasikala Natarajan. As per information, new additional director general of prisons, N S Megharikh, and deputy inspector general, Revanna, have admitted to most of the contents of the report submitted by DIG Roopa including allowing unregulated access to visitors.

It is said that the officers also said that the report about celebration of birthday by some prisoners at Mangaluru prison was true.

During the meeting of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) headed by former home minister and MLA, R Ashoka, which was held on Friday, the officers admitted to these things, as per reports. They agreed to file a report on steps taken to avert these irregularities in the prison, within 15 days.

The committee had summoned the officers to question them about the irregularities and wrongs continuing since the last ten years at the central prison here even after the report of Comptroller and Auditor General submitted in 2004-05 had raised these points and the same were found again in the report of DIG Roopa this year. The then PAC had discussed the issues and recommended suitable steps but the government had failed to take any steps to reform the functioning of the prison.

The CAG report in 2014-15 had again talked about use of cellphones inside prisons, visit by unconnected people in the guise of relatives of prisoners, unregulated entry of vehicles, issue of cells at the discretion of prisoners, irregulartieis in conducting works etc.

Why our Govt. is blind and deaf without taking suitable action to stop such illegal activities in the jail? The Govt. transfers the Officers when they point out certain irregularities. Instead of set righting them why the Govt. punish by way of transfer. ? Instead give them promotion for their good work and dont demote them.

Can't imaging how is their life outside jails.

"senior prison officials are learnt to have admitted to having provided five luxury rooms and several other facilities"

    * where 8 to 12 common prisoners dumped in a 150' CBM room which was meant for 2 or 3 prisoners.
this is where officials make money not all.*

This report is a slap on the face of the government. It is a mystery how the government was not aware of what was happening. Be that as it may, now that it has been reported that such activities were going on, let us see what action the government takes in this matter. This is a blessing in disguise for the government to prove that it does not support those who are corrupt. Come on, punish those who are involved in this disgraceful act and show that you not on the same page as them. At least for a change, let us see some action. Let us see if you are really willing to do it. Trust me, should they do it, this will stand the government in good stead.
