Our Parents and Life’s Bliss

Jun 15, 2010

Parents are God’s image of the guardian protector here on earth. The upbringing of a child is beautifully carved in the footsteps of what a father and mother does.  Indian culture boils down to the best dish that can ever be when it comes to respect for parents, gratitude, importance and purpose.

In many countries there are numerous occasions, where the child does not even know who the mother and father is, perhaps never even seen them. Divorces, broken families, shattered dreams rule the roost, the traces of which are unfortunately seen increasingly even in our country these days.

A family will remain only if the father and mother live in tranquility, where happiness frolics hand in hand in homely surroundings. When a child grows up, he looks up to his parents, the way they go about doing things in life and decides things by mixing his opinion too. Here is a little poem depicting a child, the way he looks up to his elders especially parents

Little Eyes upon you!

There are little eyes upon you

And they’re watching night and day

There are little ears that quickly

Take in every word you say.

There are little hands all eager

To do anything you do,

And a little boy who’s dreaming

Of the day he’ll be like you.

You’re the little fellow’s idol,

You’re the wisest of the wise

In his little mind about you

No suspicions ever rise.

He believes in you devoutly

Holds all that you say and do

He will say and do, in your way

When he’s grown up like you.

There’s a wide eyed little fellow

Who believes you’re always right,

And his eyes are always opened,

And he watches day and night

You are setting an example

Every day in all you do

For the little boy who’s waiting

To grow up to be like you.

There are some instances in life where the kids may not agree with a parental opinion, may have cold wars or have healthy arguments.  But these are tiny little fights of life which can be considered as a passing phase and must be forgotten with time.  Remembering and re-living a bad moment never holds good because a distaste and hatred at home will only break you.  We have to realize that our friends will never help us, in times of difficulty..  Relatives are the last people you can approach on earth.  It’s generally this way, although exceptions are cited. A home- bound environment is the best that one can ever aspire to have.

If you want to know the value of a parent-kid-home-far from home scenario ask someone…

Ask someone who lost his/her parents in an accident

Ask someone whose parents are ailing

Ask an hostelite who longs to go home

Ask a mother who lost her child due to a chronic disease or a trauma.

Do you want more?

These examples may sound trifle harsh but ... Well its only here that we relate our importance and worth, otherwise it’s a forgotten entity.

I would also dwell into a bit on the issue of f ‘adoption & the way people opine about it.

It is sad that People look at an adopted kid as odd.  But is it really justified to have that kind of attitude?

Couples have the courage to adopt an unknown innocent child and raise it as their own child.  In such an instance who are we to pass our judgment?  But we never improve and find vicarious pleasure in spreading rumors and tell more people that so & so kid of XYZ is adopted & not a biological one. This kind of attitude is not right on our part and we need to change within, our ideology, mindset & outlook. Let us talk about issues which are beneficial rather than indulge in such unwanted and cheap gossip.

All said and done let us s spread life’s bliss in ways that bring us happiness by showing our kindness to humanity and by living a purposeful journey of life.

Thank you Edmond for a well written article. Parents & Children here in Canada should read this. Practically every home in Canada is facing a rift problem. I would put as 9 out of 10 families have problems with teenage children. Children are confused because of the culture difference. Besides what Edmond has written I would add that "Family prayers" would make a difference. A family that prays together, stays together. So dont allow the children to miss the family prayers and Life would be BLISS.

The joy of parental presence is a blessing that no words can describe. When parents are gone for their heavenly rewards, you are only left behind with precius memories that often bring emotions and there is nothing else than can substitute. Parents gave us so much when life was tough and there was so little. Parents left behind tons of blessings, blessings that walk with us and talk with us every step of the way. The legacy that our parents have left behind is enough for many more generations to cherish and remind each one of us that its not the bank balance or the rich farmland, but its purely their prayers and their shadow of greatness that inspire us move forward day after day with a sense of pride and with a pinch of smile. For those lucky ones who have the privilege of your parents living, do take good care of them because life is short and the opportunities are rare to compensate all that parents deserve from us
