Lost Trust

Lost Trust
Years ago I found a friend for life -
Or so I thought;
We walked the paths together.
The ups and downs were never a bother.
Life's battles could never break us.
We built a dream on hope and faith,
A trust so deep that never could change.
Smiles and conversation filled the days,
And life seemed lovely and full of grace.

But that was years ago and today,
What remains are empty words and promises,
Smouldering in the ashes of hope that once was.
A betrayed trust and shattered dreams.
An empty path leading nowhere.
The trust I once had is long lost
What remains are whispers,
Of forgotten promises and,
Lost dreams that once my eyes held.
