The Joy of Little Things in Life

April 14, 2024

Have you seen a kid totally involved in playing with his/her toys? Yes! That's innocence. But, that also indicates satisfaction. The most important thing required for a content life is-satisfaction. Then, the question arises: Aren't we satisfied with our lives? Aren't we happy?

Yes! Most of us are happy, but not from within. No matter what all we have, we always go in search of something other than what we have. We forget the fact that, the little joys of everyday add up to life's happiness. Have you noticed the joy in listening to the chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves, seeing a flower blooming, the child's innocent smile, sipping coffee/tea, enjoying an ice-cream, reading a good book, taking a walk in the park, flying the kite or spending time with a loved one? We should learn to enjoy all these little moments, only then we can find joy and fulfillment everyday.

How do we find joy in little things then? -

1) Mindfulness - Being in the present & living every second of life without being judgmental. By doing so, we will start discovering something new every day which makes us happy.
2) Appreciation - Let's take our time to appreciate the beauty around and within us. The best music heard, the sunset, the chirping of birds, self-improvement or an act of kindness. Appreciating these little things impacts our lives positively.
3) Overcome fear & try new experiences - Only when we step out of our shoes and start to walk, we will know how beautiful the journey is. So, overcome fear, explore and experience new things and witness how happy the world turns out to be.
4) Invest in yourself - Let's use our resources to better ourselves. Keep a daily routine, develop a new hobby. Let's invest & maintain both our physical as well as mental health. A sound mind helps us build a peaceful & happy life.
5) Build a social circle & spend quality time - Spend time with loved ones, make sure to have at least one meal together with family, meet friends often and feel connected. Building and maintaining close relationships with family and friends induces a sense of joy.
6) Complain less & be grateful - Let's stop comparing and complaining. Let's be grateful for what we have. Take things easy & calm down. What has to happen will happen but let's work towards progress. Maintain a 'gratitude diary' and list out the things that you are grateful for every day.

Life is a roller coaster ride. To find joy in little things in life requires effort. Make it a routine. Gradually this routine turns into a healthy habit. Small bundles of joy each day brings loads of happiness in life.

Below is one short poem of mine which I want to share with you all.

We get so busy complaining about what we do not have that we forget to cherish what we have.
We get so busy in learning how to become the best that we forget to remind ourselves we are doing better every day.
We get so busy in praying for what all we want that we forget to be thankful for having what all we need.
We get so busy in life that we forget to live this precious life.
So, live in the present, be happy, cherish every moment and most importantly, 'love & live this beautiful life'.

I wish your life is filled with joy and happiness. Keep shining and keep smiling.
