Happiness is a Choice

May 15, 2024

Being happy has become a challenging task these days. We go in search of happiness. We take up courses to learn about the ways to be happy. So, the question arises - Is it hard to be happy? The answer is NO! It isn't hard because happiness is a choice.

YOU are responsible for YOUR happiness. We have forgotten the fact that happiness can be found within. Being happy is important but what is even more important is being happy from within.

How to find happiness then?

1) Be a happy camper - Prioritise happiness. If you decide not to be happy, you will always be unhappy. Feeling bad for being unhappy won't change anything. You have to decide to come out of it and get over it. Learn to value yourself. Think about the positive side of life, recall positive memories. It's easier said than done but it isn't impossible. Shift your focus, concentrate on the brighter side as you start your day and work with a smile. Be content. Happiness slowly follows you.

2) Practice Mindfulness - Be in the present and cherish every moment. Unnecessarily thinking about the past or worrying about the future will not make any difference because what has already happened cannot be corrected and what is going to happen cannot be controlled without taking any measures. The moment you learn to enjoy what is happening with your life right now, you will start feeling comfortable, better and happy.

3) Do things that you enjoy - Develop hobbies. Be it singing, dancing cooking, gardening, painting, playing outdoor games, learning a new language, bike rides, walking, jogging, exercising, swimming etc., There has to be a balance between work and life. So, apart from your regular routine make some time to do the things you are interested in. Do things you enjoy the most but importantly enjoy the things that you do as well.

4) Set achievable goals - Setting goals are important but setting achievable goals is crucial. Setting a goal which is difficult to reach draws unhappiness and decreases self-confidence. Set goals which are specific, time bound, measurable and achievable. Working towards your set achievable goals itself starts bringing happiness.

5) Healthy lifestyle - Maintain a healthy diet and ensure you sleep well. Exercise to keep yourself active. Make self-care a routine. Stay hydrated. Meet friends and family often, build your social circle-surround yourself with happy people. Prioritise things in life. Practice gratitude and learn to relax. Know to compliment, apologize when wrong and be kind to others. A healthy habit creates a healthy lifestyle which leads to happiness.

Life is never a filled-pot for everyone. Ups and downs are common in life without which life wouldn't have been this interesting. Find the source of your happiness. Experiencing happiness is important for both physical and mental health. You don't need reasons to be happy, you just have to decide to be happy.

Below is one poem of mine which I want to share with you all.

Think happiness, life attracts happiness.
Think positive, lifestyle turns positive.
Think success, life shows an easier way to achieve success.
Think of your dreams, life creates a path to make your dreams come true.
'Thoughts turn into reality'.
So, let your thoughts be the best for your life to be the best.

Wishing you all loads of happiness in life. Keep smiling & keep shining.
