Our lives have become restless these days. We are occupied with work and multitasking. In this case, we rarely get free time and when we get the leisure time, we have the tendency to spend that time sitting and looking at our phones. There is nothing wrong in using the phone if it is done within the limit. Instead, think about the benefits of investing in a hobby during that spare time. Initially, it may be difficult to develop a hobby. But, once we start to develop a hobby, it changes our lives.
So, why a hobby is important in our life?
1) Creativity - Summer vacations are a break given to children after exams for studying throughout the year. Similarly, we who are tired working all day long need a break to relax and refresh. One can involve themselves in hobbies like reading a book, painting, photography etc. Cultivating a hobby other than using social media will make us more creative and powerful.
2) Patience - Ups and downs are common in life. We have to be patient enough to face all that. A plant turns into a tree not just in a day, it takes years. Patience is required for growth. If we lack patience or want to increase the level of our patience, hobby is a must. Any new task seems challenging at first, but with patience and practice we can master it. Hobbies also help improve our concentration. Example-Playing an instrument, cooking/baking or puzzle solving.
3) Nice escape from boredom - What to do after all the work is done? How long to watch TV/mobile? Instead of sitting and thinking about ways to pass the time, try to do something that is meaningful and enjoyable. Spend time learning a new language, looking after a pet or gardening. If we have at least one favourite hobby, life becomes interesting.
4) Stress Buster - Problems are a part of life. No one can escape from it, but one can surely overcome it. In that way, hobbies are useful to lead a stress free life. Have you observed children playing? They forget what's happening around them while playing. Likewise, the surrounding environment feels different when we are engaged in a hobby. For example - swimming, listening to music or exercise. Hobbies reduce stress and increase happiness in life.
5) Confidence & Knowledge - Our social circle is becoming smaller, conversations are turning short, smiles are reducing. There may be multiple factors affecting it. One of the reasons is our confidence level.
When we have an opportunity to learn something new, it increases our confidence. A hobby helps us to learn new things and also enhances our knowledge. This makes it easier for us to interact with other people and also build our social circle. Try dancing, hiking, writing/blogging etc.
We have to learn to balance work-family-selfcare. Let's understand that 'our own time is as important as our work and family time'. Let us spend our free time learning and doing good things. Our personality is shaped by the hobbies we develop. Hobbies can be a source of income, it brings positive vibes to our lives and also plays an important role in maintaining good physical and mental health.
I wish you all a happy day. Keep shining & keep smiling.
