To Kill a Mockingbird

August 10, 2024

To Kill a Mockingbird
To kill a mockingbird is a book in which each word
Strongly resonates with how I feel
It’s my Geeta and my Bible which I need for my survival
With a message that’s profound and helps me heal

It’s taught me to embrace my shortcomings and face
Failings that aren’t easy to confront
I’ve learnt you never judge a man until you try to understand
The times he’s closed his eyes and borne the brunt

So, you climb inside his skin and feel where he has been
For you have to walk his road and make a call
Let not his class or race your core beliefs erase
It’s time we built more bridges not a wall

So, when you are in doubt just turn to Atticus or Scout
And be that version of yourself that’s best
Just revisit the child in you and innocence will see you through
A choice that stems from goodness will help you pass Life’s test

Beautifully written Anita! There is a scripture verse that says, first remove the beam from your own eye. Then you will see clearly to remove the piece of sawdust from another believer's eye. ...
