“Success” – this seven-letter word is ruining humanity day by day. To earn this success, people nowadays are ready to go to any extent. Everyone wants success – that's completely okay – but how you are getting it matters the most.
Let me share one personal incident of mine which made me write on this topic today. On June 21, 2025, a “good person” who was a very close friend of my grandpa visited my house. He wanted to forcefully put his opinions on me. He asked what I was doing. I told him I am working as a guest lecturer in Goliangadi, which is around 32 km away from my place. He asked about my educational qualifications then – till here, everything was fine.
After that, he asked, “Did you write the IBPS examination?” I said no, because my passion is for teaching only. He asked, “Did you apply in companies?” He himself mentioned a company name located in Santhekatte, Brahmavara. And to get a job there, I need to plead with a boss saying I am GSB – their caste – and request to give me a job, it seems.
Here I got pissed off, and I told him firmly, “I don't want to work anywhere by influence or for money. I am happy with what I am doing now. I chase knowledge, and I am grounded in my ethics. I can't do this cheap act to earn instant success.” So he said, “You are above one of politician Siddaramaiah,” and laughed. I just remained silent and walked away because I understood talking and arguing with him is an utter waste of my energy.
I agree financial independence is necessary for all. But in the race to earn more money, I cannot do wrong deeds.
Imagine there may be 10 more genuine people with applications in their hands, and there are 10 vacancies – all 10 of them deserve to get that job. If I suddenly snatch someone’s position by the name of casteism or favouritism, how will that person feel? He will cry, and his tears will directly reach God – and in His justice, I will be trapped in a vicious circle of karma. Even if God forgives me, karma won’t.
Thankfully, my heart and mind were strong enough to stand for my passion, ethics, and value system. But the way he made me feel – that I am a waste body in society if I don't have money in two digits – was deeply disappointing. This money is ruining everything and everyone.
Let me open up the truth – the person who told me all this has 25 years of experience as an assistant professor in various universities and has also worked in top positions during his service. To hear such low-standard words and be shown a wrong path tells me that all his life – whatever success, money, power, and respect he achieved – all went in vain because of his 20-minute talk with me.
I was shocked and lost my control when I got to know about his professional background. Such a “good person,” but his thoughts are worse to the core. I told him, “At least respect your position.”
One thing I want to tell you here – not everyone can become a teacher, doctor, or soldier. These three jobs require special blessings from God because all three of them take care of the lives of lakhs of people. And our service should serve humanity, rather than make money out of it.
The sad reality of the present generation is that there are some elders who are misleading the youth towards getting name, fame, and success by stamping on innocent, deserving candidates. We all need to stay grounded in our value system and resist these negative acts. Change starts from within. If we all decide in our minds to be fair and ethical, no one can lead us down the wrong path.
