Ratan Naval Tata – May your Tribe Increase

Touching hearts, touching lives no matter where he went
India’s ‘Anmol Ratan’ was certainly Godsent
Soaring in our memories – earning our respect
His legacy of goodness makes one introspect

Ever self-effacing, down-to-earth and mild
His character unblemished, flawless and undefiled
Leading 30 companies across 6 continents
Fearless humane leadership is what he represents

Starting as a trading firm in 1868
The Tata group expanded at a significant rate
With global operations that stretched from salt to steel
The titan with a golden heart worked with zest and zeal

From Jaguars to airlines, software to Tetley Tea
No compromise said Tata on top-notch quality
Bridging innovation, tradition and technique
This pioneer in business had a winning streak

Cementing the Tata brand in homes across the land
With ready-to-eat wholesome meals he understood demand
He gave a boost to start ups – not shying from bold bets
People before Profit – his most valued assets

Creating a landscape for people to excel
From torchbearers to trailblazers - they were unparalleled
Shaping India’s future he played a vital role
His philanthropic efforts make him a noble soul

Understated elegance, old-world charm and grace
Unfailingly polite even when he lost a race
Heartbroken when Nano failed though he tried his best
Welfare of the common man remained his earnest quest

While volumes could be written about his business deals
His charitable selfless acts is really what appeals
To millions who’ve not met him but heard about his deeds
Going beyond the boardroom - addressing social needs

The winner of a million hearts had won the adoration
Of workers on the factory floor of the entire nation
It doesn’t take the Forbes List to help a champion win
Our beacon of integrity had steely discipline

From scholarships to healthcare, he left no stone unturned
On 26/11 the Nations trust he earned
Mumbai was attacked in heinous acts of crime
Our lion-hearted stalwart stood the test of time

Standing vigil at the Taj where several lives were lost
Supporting all the victims – no matter what the cost
Making trips to hospitals – comforting those in pain
With kindness and compassion – Humanity would reign

His canine friends feel orphaned – he truly cared for them
Humility personified – that’s India’s priceless gem
He missed a lifetime honour when Tango was unwell
And mesmerised Prince Charles who was in a starry spell

Wealth does not define a man nor does power or fame
Employees before balance sheets – is how he played life’s game
The end of an era – as India’s lost a son
Mourned the world all over – he was second to none

Aamchi Mumbai’s mourning as our ‘Desh ke watan’
Will never ever see the likes of ‘Aapro Ratan’
Ratan Naval Tata – May your tribe increase
With Tito and dear Tango – May you rest in peace

"Ratan Tata was supposed to receive a lifetime achievement award from Prince Charles in 2018, and all preparations were made. However, Ratan Tata did not go to England to receive the award because his dog fell ill. When Prince Charles learned of this, he praised Ratan Tata highly. Another incident occurred when Ratan Tata personally distributed wheelchairs to 200 handicapped children. As he was leaving, one child grabbed his leg tightly. Ratan Tata asked the child if he needed anything else, but the child's response left Ratan Tata stunned. The child said, 'I want to see your face clearly because when I meet you in heaven, I want to thank you again.' This child's words are truly touching. Therefore, I consider Ratan Tata nothing less than an angel."
