Mangalore: Rain and Lightning Bring Relief, Create Problems

Mangalore, Apr 23: A number of places in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts received rain coupled with thunder and lightning on Friday April 22 evening. Rain revisited these places again for nearly an hour on Saturday April 23 morning. Cloudy weather continues to envelope the region, as a result of which, more rains are expected today. Power supply continues to be the first casualty because of rain. However, no losses due to rain were reported from these districts on Friday.

Hosangady and Venoor areas in Beltangady taluk received heavy rains on Friday evening. Rain was also experienced in Sullia, Guruvayanakere and all over Bantwal taluk. Loss to a house due to a fallen tree was reported from Mandekolu in Sullia taluk. A number of places within Karkala taluk got rain on Friday morning and evening.

Kodagu district has also been receiving rain since the last some days. Although the downpour has brought relief to villages suffering from acute shortage of water, it has also resulted in losses for agriculture. Rain is welcome for coffee plants, but pepper crop is likely suffer.

After a tree and electric pole in Moornadu village fell across the road, traffic on the road got blocked on Friday morning. The PWD officials and Moornadu policemen worked to clear the road later.
