Mangalore: Periyashanti Accident – Victims Cremated, Injured Recovering

Mangalore, Apr 25: Out of the four natives of Kallamundkoor village who died in a road accident that occurred between a Maruti Omni vehicle and a LPG tanker at Lavatadka near Periyashanti, Uppinangady, on Saturday April 23, the body of Guruprasad Bhat, resident of Koppala House in Kallamundkoor, who was driving the ill-fated vehicle, was assigned to flames on Saturday night itself.

The bodies of aged couple, Bhoja Mada and Rati Shetty, and their daughter, Shambhavi, reached their home on Sunday afternoon. While Bhoja Mada and his wife were cremated together on Sunday evening, a separate pyre was set up for the cremation of Shambhavi Shetty.

MLA, K Abhayachandra, gram panchayat president, Geeta Amin, vice president, Joachim Correa, apart from dignitaries and relatives, who had rushed in from various places including Mumbai, participated in the funeral.

In the meantime, Mohan Mada, Vasant Mada, Rohini Alva, Kartika, Aniket, Santosh Alva and Artik Rai, who were admitted into a hospital in the city after suffering injuries in the above accident, are recovering. Vasant Mada continues to be in the intensive care unit of the hospital.
