Mangalore: Yakshagana Academy Honorary Awards on May 1

Mangalore, Apr 26: President of Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy, Kumble Sundar Rao, said that a function to hand over honorary awards of the academy for the year 2010 will be held in the premises of Mandarti Goddess Durgaparameshwari Temple on May 1. He was addressing a press conference in the city on Monday April 25.

Minister for higher education, Dr V S Acharya, will inaugurate the programme at 6.30 pm that day. Minister for Kannada and culture, Govind Karjol, will hand over the awards. ‘Yakshopasakaru’, a Kannada work providing details about 600 artistes, will be released by A G Kodgi, president of the State Third Finance Commission Recommendations Implementation Committee. Kumble Sundar Rao will preside over the function.

BJP state president, K S Eshwarappa, Kundapur MLA, Halady Srinivas Shetty, MLA, K Raghupati Bhat, MLC, Kota Srinivas Poojary, and Mandarti temple trustee, H Dhananjay Shetty, will participate as chief guests, he said.

The awards comprising of cash component of Rs 10,000 each, will be conferred on Yakshagana artistes, Krishnatimmaiah Hegde Balehadda, Hallady Manjaiah Shetty, Shivaram Jogi, Puttur Sridhar Bhandary, K Leelavati Baipadittaya, Begar Padmanabh Shettigar, Moodalapaya artiste, Siddalingaiah, Bayalata artistes, Mallikarjun Rachappa Mudakavi and K Hussain Sab, and ‘Yakshadegula Bangalore’ for training and organization. “Tenkutittu artistes will present ‘Sudarshana Vijaya’ Yakshagana episode from 5 pm to 6.30 pm that day. From 8.30 pm that day, Yakshagana performance will be presented by Mandarti Yakshagana Mela, he added.

Academy member, Murali Kadekar, was present at the press conference.
