Karkala, Apr 28: The policemen of Hebri station on Tuesday April 26 arrested three men, who were allegedly involved with the theft of gold ornaments worth about four lac rupees, belonging to a woman travelling in a bus. They have been identified as Tulaja Naik (37), Shivanand Naik (27), and Bheema Naik (60), natives of Sorab taluk in Shimoga district.
Jayanti Krishnamurty from Mandagadde in Shimoga district had travelled to Udupi by a private mini bus from her village, to take part in a marriage function in Udupi on Monday. As the bus was overcrowded, she had kept her bag behind the seat of the bus driver. When alighting from the bus after reaching Udupi, she noticed that her bag containing gold ornaments had gone missing.
After she approached the policemen, Hebri policemen registered a case. They contacted the bus conductor, and learnt that seven persons, working as daily wagers in a rubber plantation in Andar village had travelled by the bus that day. They visited the plantation, brought all the seven persons working there to the police station, and questioned them. They learnt that three of them had stolen the bag in question.
These three have been arrested. Circle inspector, Puttaswamy Gowda, and Hebri station house officer, Santosh Shetty, are investigating.
