Bengaluru, Dec 5: Urging students to become part of the solution, Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, Minister for Higher Education, said pursuit of knowledge was the only way to fulfill aspirations.
In his address at the 57th convocation ceremony of the Bengaluru University on Monday, he said 21st century would be the era of knowledge across the globe. In a country with over 135 crore population, the younger generation should not become a part of the problem. Instead, if they could become part of the solution then it would benefit not only India but the entire world, he emphasized.
Quality education is the only way to overcome the challenges including that of sustainable development.
Realising the importance of education, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced National Education Policy.
By making use of this opportunity we should impart all our efforts to make our country vishwaguru, Dr Narayan pointed out. The Chief Guest Prof M Jagadish Kumar, Chairperson, UGC, asked students to develop the habit of asking questions He added, that the quality of questions arised in a person was more important than the answers he/she knew.
Saying that India was progressing in rapid pace, he felt the technological developments and effective implementation of digitalisation were facilitating the growth of the country in a larger way.
Honorary Doctorates were conferred upon Amarnath Gowda, Attorney, Counselor of Law and president, Association of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA), veteran actor, director and producer Dwarakeesh B S and T Anil Kumar, artist, painter and photographer.
300 gold medals, 73 cash prices, 257 doctorates were awarded. More than 30,000 students got convocation certificates.
Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, Vice-Chancellor Dr. SM jayakar, Prof J.T.Devaraj, N.Mahesh Babu, Registrars and S Ajith Kumar Hegde, Finance Officer attended.
