Karnataka Brahmin group slams state govt's inclusion of dominant castes in EWS quota

Bengaluru, Jan 6 (IANS): The Akhila Karnataka Brahmin Mahasabha (AKBM) has said that the BJP-led state government's decision to accommodate the dominant Lingayats and Vokkaligas communities in the economically weaker section (EWS) quota is "anti-Brahmin".

AKBM president and senior lawyer Ashok Haranahalli said that Brahmins cannot accept this decision of the state government.

In a video statement, Haranahalli has appealed to all the sub-sects within the Brahmin community to come together to fight against the Karnataka government's decision.

Ashok Haranahalli

"Irrespective of directions, the state government's decision that 10 per cent reservation should be given to the economically weaker section, the government has not moved forward for several years. However, it has taken a decision suddenly now to divide the 10 per cent reservation and give it to the two communities -- Lingayats and Vokkaligas. The government has plans to limit the reservation to the Brahmin community to only two to three per cent," he added.

The government had extended reservation to 56 per cent with the increase in the reservation quota of Scheduled Castes and Tribes. The Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities already enjoy quota benefits and can't be accommodated in the EWS category, he said.

The Brahmins cannot accept this decision, he added.

The ruling BJP had announced a reservation quota for the dominant Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities recently and said that it would accommodate them in the EWS quota.

Eliminate all brahmins (4%) so that this country which is getting suffocated (at least as per Congress narrative) will be free so that BR Ambedkar can be celebrated with vigor; celebration well deserved. The minorities (30+ X%) are involving in blatant propaganda to justify conversion based on oppression of Brahmins - again promoted by Congress narrative including Discovery of India. Bharath Mata ki Jai. What is the caste of Sri Rama, Sri Krishna, Veda Vyasa, Karna....list is long. No, nobody is interested in sathya of the past. We are busy creating sathya of the future armed with dollars some oiled and the other printed by printing press.

Well said. I would go one step further. What India needs is starting with a clean slate, i.e. wiping out the inherited culture/traditions/religious-practices, as Chairman Mao did to China. In India, the "past" gets constantly reinvented/repurposed to keep the power in the hands of certain groups. This "past" is far too problematic for both the well-being of the people and progress of the country. Wishful thinking, of course. Is it possible to wipe the slate clean under a democracy? Absolutely not. The pillars of democracy are money power, religion, bribes and vote banks.
