Beltangady, Jan 8: The Chennai police visited Dharmastala in order to verify if a letter threatening to blast the Bhatkal police station by a thief was posted from the post office of Dharmasthala.

Chennai police had arrested Hanamantha (42), a native of Hospet, who had written a hoax bomb blast letter. He wrote a letter on November 11 to Bhatkal city police station and threatened to blow it up. It is said that the letter mentioned that the next target would be Chennai and there was Urdu writing also on the letter. The Tamil Nadu police have also received a similar threat letter.

Hanamantha is an interstate thief. Police got a clue about him, when he sold a laptop that was stolen in Chennai.

During interrogation, it came to light that the accused had posted threatening letters to blast police stations in Tamil Nadu, Puliyanthopu and Bhatkal on November 29 in the Dharmastala post office box.

The Chennai police checked the post box as well as nearby CCTV footages. Anil Kumar, SI of Dharmastala police station also cooperated with the Tamil Nadu police.

It is learnt that police are continuing the investigation as the accused Hanamantha roamed in Sullia and Subramanya areas also.
