Kundapur, Jan 14: Union minister Shobha Karandlaje had demanded two days ago in a meeting at Udupi the merger of Konkan Railway Corporation with Indian railways considering the irregularities in Konkan railways trains. Kundapur citizens and Kundapur Hitarakshana samithi have welcomed the statement and informed the minister their agreement.
Konkan railways has been stating that their trains are being run on loss whenever the passengers demand for additional facilities on the train. The minister of railways had opined at Bengaluru recently that it is better to merge Konkan railways with the Indian railways.
The Konkan railways that was established thirty years ago had aimed to repay their loans and merge with the Indian railways. It is said that the Konkan railways has failed to respond to the demands of the people saying that they are facing financial constraints and conducting doubling works is doubtful.
In these circumstances the coast is likely to continue as a single line for the next few decades without implementing any of the demands of the people.
Therefore, the citizens of Kundapur and the Hitarakshana samithi have urged minister Shobha Karandlaje to bring the matter to the notice of the railway minister and the prime minister.
