Why Do Celebrities Get Detained at Airports?

Daijiworld Media Network

Mumbai, Jun 27: Anushka Sharma has become the latest Bollywood beauty joining the list of celebrities detained at the airport for not declaring an imported item.

Before Anushka, Bipasha Basu and Minisha Lamba had been detained at the Mumbai airport for a similar reason.

Anushka was returning from IIFA awards ceremony from Canada, when she was detained for not declaring an imported item she was carrying in her luggage.  It is learnt that only after completing the necessary paper work was she allowed to proceed.

When the news spread around the international airport some people were heard saying, "Wonder what these film actors think of themselves... can't they follow the rules of customs? Just because they are celebrties, do they think they will be allowed to walk free? What about common people?"

It may be recalled Preity Zinta, another Bollywood actress and the co-owner of IPL Punjab King XI had behaved arrogantly with one of the security officials at Mumbai airport during the security check. She did not expect to be frisked, or have her handbags checked, just because of her celebrity status.

Perhaps, it would be better for any celebrity, whether a film actor or a cricketer or any other high-profile personality, to follow the rules at customs and immigration, than facing embarassment as in the case of Anushka and others!
