Hyderabad, Nov 3: Telugu film stars Chiranjeevi and his son Ram Charan hosted Union Home Minister Amit Shah at their residence in Hyderabad on Monday, where they discussed the growing misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfake technology and its potential impact on the film industry.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy was also present during the meeting. Ram Charan shared photographs of the gathering on social media, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to meet Shah along with his father.

The pictures showed Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan welcoming the Home Minister with a bouquet, an idol and a traditional shawl.

Ram Charan said they had raised concerns about the misuse of AI and deepfake technology, particularly the threat it poses to artists and others working in the entertainment industry. He expressed encouragement over Shah’s understanding of the issue and his positive response to their concerns.

According to the actor, Shah assured them that the government would examine the matter urgently and work towards introducing stronger safeguards and strict action against the misuse of such technologies.

The meeting comes at a time when the entertainment industry is increasingly concerned about the unauthorised use of artificial intelligence to create manipulated images, videos and voices of celebrities.

Meanwhile, Ram Charan is preparing for his next project with acclaimed filmmaker Sukumar. Tentatively titled RC17, the film was launched recently at a grand muhurat ceremony in Hyderabad, attended by Chiranjeevi as the Special Guest of Honour. The veteran actor sounded the ceremonial clapboard to mark the beginning of the project.

The film is being produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar under the banner of Mythri Movie Makers and presented by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series.

Ram Charan and Sukumar are reuniting after their successful 2018 collaboration, Rangasthalam. Details about the upcoming film's supporting cast, technical crew, storyline and shooting schedule have not yet been officially announced.
