Mangalore, Jul 9: Relating to the death of Punj Lloyd safety officer, Johnson Santosh Roasrio, in the MRPL premises on account of the crashing of a boom lift of a giant crane on Thursday July 7, the concerned have arrived at an amicable understanding on the compensation package, it is gathered. The conciliation talks between the family of Rosario and company representatives were held in the presence of Suratkal station house officer, Belliappa, on Friday July 8.

The post mortem of the body was conducted at A J Hospital in the city on Thursday evening. On Friday, it was taken by the family to their native place. Funeral was performed at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Kuppepadavu the same day.

In view of the success of the talks, the workers unions of Punj Lloyd and JDCL, which had taken a decision to observe bandh on Friday, called off their strike call. Union general secretary, Sudatta Jain, said that the workers of both the companies resumed work at around 12 pm.

At the talks, Punj Lloyd agreed to pay Rs 4.5 lac as relief to the family of Rosario. JDCL also gave its consent to disburse compensation of Rs 5.5 lac. It was also agreed to provide employment to one of the family members of the deceased. In addition to the relief amount, insurance claims will be settled separately, it is learnt.

Johnson’s family members gave their consent to this formula. By evening, JDCS handed over cheque for Rs 5.5 lac to the family. Punj Lloyd disbursed Rs 50,000 and promised to pay the balance amount within a month, Johnson’s family said.

In the meanwhile, crane operator of JDCL Company, who was responsible for the above accident, has gone missing. The driver, identified as Bolaram Singh from Gujarat, has not been traced as yet. A complaint of negligence has been filed against him in Suratkal police station.

Am surprised by this so called union representative agreeing for peanuts. This whole thing of a strike was a sham. The companies have cheated the bereaved family in their hour of sorrow. What was the urgency. This should be in court and the judge should decide the amount to be paid as compensation.

Condolence to the bereaved family the loss is irreplacable, only God can confort the family of Johnson Rosario.Ten lakhs, the price of a precious life lost. How absurd, how come the union agreed and the family as well. Money is not everything, but what is 10 lakhs when India is all about crores... Sai Baba Trust, Padmanabha Temple, list goes on... So human life has no value at all... Sad indeed!!!

I agree with KR Prabhu this is really shocking to know that they have agreed for such a small amout of money for their belevod son. Yes agreed money will never get him back nor there will be any value for it, but there should be a justice in the Compensiation. This is way too less.
