Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 11: The South West Monsoon has arrived in coastal Karnataka, bringing heavy rains that are expected to continue for the next four days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.

The wind velocity is predicted to reach 40 to 45 km/h, and fishermen are advised against venturing into the sea due to high wave heights.

On Saturday morning, significant rainfall was observed in Bantwal, Beltangady, Puttur, Moodbidri, Suratkal, and Mangaluru city.

In Bejai, a tree fell, causing temporary traffic disruption. Another tree fell onto the tiled roof of a house near Kavoor BGS School, injuring three occupants. The estimated loss from this incident is around Rs 5 lac.

In Beltangady taluk, a tree fell on an electricity pole, resulting in a disruption of power supply. In Puttur, a lightning strike caused damage to the house of Eshwara Gowda in Paraneedu, resulting in a cracked wall and an estimated loss of Rs 2 lac.

At Tenkabettu, Kundapur, a lightning strike damaged the house of Susheela Ravindra Shetty Kattemane, leading to the burning of electrical appliances and an estimated loss of Rs 3 lac.

Additionally, the electrical appliances in the house of Vanaja Shedthi, located in Maratoor under the Molahalli gram panchayat limits, were completely damaged due to lightning on Friday night.
