Mangaluru, Jun 22: In a another twist to the bus driver's presence of mind in averting a woman in coming under his vehicle's wheels and the subsequent case against him, the 'lucky' lady has also been charged by the City Traffic South Police for recklessly crossing the road near Taudugoli Cross.

It may be recalled that when a private bus named Gopalkrishna, en route from Mangaluru to Mudipu, was passing near Taudugoli Cross on Tuesday, the lady had crossed the road unmindful of the oncoming danger and driver Thyagaraj had braked just on time. The CCTV footage of the incident had gone viral on social media and the bus driver was hailed for his presence of mind.

The woman, identified as Aisamma (63) from Varkadi in Kasaragod district, had failed to exercise due care while crossing the road. Consequently, a case has been registered against her under Section 13 of Traffic Control Rules and Section 92G of the KP Act, as confirmed by the inspector of the South Traffic Station.

Although the bus driver managed to avoid hitting the woman by swiftly veering to the left, the police have imposed fines on the bus for overspeeding and careless driving on a narrow road, accompanied by the use of a blaring horn. Furthermore, the loud horn was also confiscated.

The viral footage of the averted accident highlights the dangers of negligent road crossing. The woman was fortunate to escape unharmed.

The case against Aisamma will proceed through the court, where she will be required to pay the imposed fine.

If any common eye sees this video of the bus it is without doubt that Thyagaraj was coming at the speed of airplane running for take off... Fine if it was a highway with no obstacles in front... But this was a clear case of reckless driving by a person with responsibility of people inside and outside the bus... As per charging the old woman it is left to the intellegence of the local traffic police...

I saw the videoclip Ofcourse the women was negligent while crossing the road Probably she was preoccupied with some thing else in mind. But we must also note that the Bus driver was over speeding in a congested area. Bus drivers must remain always vigilant about people walking cross the road. Buses must maintain low speed at areas where there is people walking and we must reman vigilant so that no one loses life in accidents Let there be a good analysis of this And let us make our roads safer I am sure the traffic police of Mangalore will do the right thing Let us remain vigilant on our roads

First of all thank God that everyone is safe. In my opinion driver in one way was alert but should be charged for speed and reckless driving only. And its the duty of the driver to slow down and allow the pedestrian to cross even if the bus was slow, cause humanity comes first. If there were zebra crossing, then the woman should have used it. It'll be a fault only if the lady purposely came in front of the traffic. The lady can be charged only if she failed to use the zebra crossing.

Absolutely appreciate the driver's time consciousness, but he was in over speed. Aisamma was unaware of the bus and walking like in the garden.

in dubai it is driver's fault if he hits a pedestrian....the police over there says..a driver is excused only if a person falls from above...if one is crossing the road the driver must be able to see...that much anticipation should be there.....pedestrian cannot be charged in this case..more over the lady is a senior citizen...you cannot expect a 60 plus person to be as agile as a 30 plus one...

Can we know what type of law is it..if accused is able to bear the amount he wont go to prison. What about poor person who cannot affordable to pay blood money life-long rot in prison. But did u think of the victims family for a moment? Wat if he wishes to forgive the criminal after conviction, on the condition of blood money which eases his life? Victim cud make the convict bankrupt by his demand which is an even bigger punishment than eating lifelong biryani in jail. These are divine laws for humanity, not some man made laws. U study its pro s and cons with an open mind.

Was the private empty????…..May be very few women but full of men. Before Shakthi scheme men passengers were standing and hanging on foot board of over crowded private buses. Now it is better and no risk to life and no threat to women being sexually harassed.

police were trigger-happy to book an elderly woman! A caution should have sufficed; perhaps the court will discharge her with a caution and excuse her from paying the fine. May be, the police have no power to issue ?caution" instead of imposing a fine and recovering through courts.
