Udupi: Puthige Math holds Kattige Muhurath for paryaya of Krishna Math

Udupi, Jun 26: the third pre-ritual, Kattige Muhurtha of paryaya of Krishna Math which will be held on January 18, 2024, was held on June 26.

The programme was held on the north-east part of the Madhawa Sarovar of Krishna Math by Shri Shri Sugunendra Theertha. Special prayer and navagraha pooja were offered to Lord Upendra Vittala, resident deity of Puttige Math. The Kattige (wood) was carried on the head and the darshan of Lord Chandreshwara and Lord Ananteshwara was done. The kattige was placed on the north-east part of the pond and pooja was offered. Religious scholars of eight Math were honored and were offered Navagraha Daana, as a part of the ritual.

Padmanabha Mesthri, Krishna Muth, initiated the process of collecting wood.

Ritual executions were carried out by Vidhvan Herga Vedavyasa Bhat and Ragavendra Kodanchara. In commemoration of the day jackfruit saplings were distributed. Suryanarayana Upadyaya, priest Anegudde temple on the occasion said, “As pre-ritual for paryaya the sequence goes as - first bale Muhurtha, then Akki muhurtha, Kattige Muhurtha and finally Batta Muhurtha will take place. This time paryaya is mainly focused on anna daana (Donate food). On the day of paryaya 24 hours bhajan will take place in Krishna math. We look for co-operation from all for the success of paryaya,” the priest said.

Kattige Muhurtha means collection of wood for paryaya. After the kattige muhurtha programme, a chariot like structure will be constructed using wood before Madhawa Sarovar. The wood is used as fire wood to cook rice during paryaya.

Representatives from eight Math, Shridhar Upadyaya, Kemj Shridhar Tanthri, B Gopal Acharya, Manjunath Upadyaya, president of Bhraman sabha, Diwan of Shri Muth, Muralidhar Acharya, Prasanna Acharya, secretary of Shri Shri Sugunendra Theertha and others were present.
