Mangaluru, Jul 14: The muhurat for Konkani drama 'Carmel Second Street' was held at Don Bosco mini hall on Thursday July 13. The drama written by young writer Stany Bela will be presented by Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS).

Fr Rocky D’Cunha OFM, president, KNS presided over the muhurat function. Renowned organizer and youth leader Denis D’Silva was present as chief guest for the muhurat event. Santhosh Sequeira, philanthropist and well-wisher of KNS, Liston D’Souza Bajal vice president KNS, Floyd D 'Mello, secretary KNS, and Jerry Concesso and Cletus Lobo, executive members, KNS were present on dais.

In his presidential address, Fr Rocky said, “Along with other cultural events and competitions, the KNS is mainly known for presenting Konkani plays. This year, we are completing our glorious 80 years and we are happy to announce the new drama ‘Carmel Second Street’ written by young and creative writer Stany Bela. The drama bagged the second prize in the playwriting competition organised by Mandd Sobhann. I wish all success to the writer, actors and all who are associated with this drama. I am confident that this play will make a positive noise among the audience and society.”

Wishing all success to the play, Denis D’Silva said, “The KNS is a solo association which has been moulding thousands of singers and actors in the history of Konkani language. Many still consider winning a prize in a KNS competition or performing an act, singing or other activity on the stage of Don Bosco hall owned by the KNS itself, as a great honour. All the legendary personalities from the Konkani entertainment syndicate of coastal Karnataka, started their journey from the stage of the KNS. It is good to know that the KNS still sticks to its mission of moulding talents and providing a stage for budding artistes. It is a great to see Stany Bela directing his new drama in Mangaluru. Being his close friend, I am wishing him all success as well as all the artistes.”

"I am very much excited for the new drama. I hope this play will be another milestone in the history of the KNS. I am thankful to the KNS for providing me an opportunity to associate with them,” said Santhosh Sequeira, Kankanady.

Stany Bela briefed about the plot of the drama and said, “After a long gap, I wrote a play which contains some relevant issues of the contemporary society. The entire plot is built around a dead body and ten other characters. I have tried to reflect the social fear of the educated and well-settled people in three scenes. I am grateful to the KNS for the opportunity to present my drama and also thankful to all the artistes and technical team members for their willingness to associate me."

Liston D’Souza Bajal, welcomed the dignitaries and gathered. Cletus Lobo rendered a vote of thanks. Floyd D'Mello Cascia compered the event.
